Bangalore: The closeness of senior Congress leader and former CM Siddaramaiah and senior BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa in Karnataka has raised the BJP's anxiety. In fact, Congress leader Siddaramaiah is scheduled to turn 75 on the 3rd of next month. On this occasion, supporters in the Davangere district are going to perform 'Siddaramaiah Utsav,' which will also be attended by senior BJP leader and former CM BS Yeddyurappa.
In fact, since stepping down as CM in 2021, Yediyurappa has been angry with the party's top leaders. They wanted some non-Lingayat leader to succeed them so that the Lingayat vote bank would remain with them. The party had appointed Basavaraj Bommai, who belongs to the Lingayat community, as the chief minister. Yeddyurappa wanted his son BY Vijayendra to be made deputy chief minister. The BJP high command hinted at Vijayendra's bid to contest the 2023 elections in a phased manner. Yeddyurappa's strength can be gauged from the fact that when he left the party in 2013, the BJP was reduced to 40 seats.
Two months ago, the second leadership of the Karnataka Congress reconciled Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Congress state president DK Shivakumar. But now, there are signs of a war of supremacy between the two leaders. While Siddaramaiah is going to perform the 'Siddaramaiah Utsav,' Shivakumar has announced to take out the Tiranga Yatra from August 15. It is said to have more than 10 million people. An invitation has been sent to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for both events to be held in the span of 12 days.
