NEW DELHI: The ruling BJP at the Centre is seriously engaged in turning its minority position into a majority in the upper house. Recent developments also confirm this. The BJP is slowly putting a dent in opposition MPs by putting a dent in them. In the recent past, four TDP, one from Inelo and one from the SP, the BJP's Daman Thama. This has already strengthened the party's position in the Rajya Sabha.

According to BJP sources, at least six MPs from other parties may resign from the Rajya Sabha and join the BJP. Four of them are from Uttar Pradesh. Most of the MPs who have decided to resign from the Upper House are those who, nine months later, end their term in the House on April 2020. These MPs have already held talks with the BJP's top leadership. Both sides have the advantage in this. With one more tenure of six years, the BJP will win a majority in the House.

Five posts are lying vacant in the Rajya Sabha. In Rajasthan, one seat has been vacated due to the death of BJP President Madan Lal Saini, while one post has been vacated after Sharad Yadav was disqualified from Bihar. The resignation of Neeraj Shekhar has vacated one seat in Uttar Pradesh. At the same time, one seat each from Tamil Nadu and Odisha are vacant. Three of these seats are scheduled to be won by the NDA.

If two or three more resignations are taking place, the NDA will get a majority in the by-elections in the next one-and-a-half months. Just a few days ago, former Prime Minister, Rajya Sabha member from SP Cote and senior leader Neeraj Shekhar resigned from both party and Rajya Sabha membership and joined BJP. In fact, the BJP wants to pass a key bill on the party's agenda, including triple talaq, citizenship amendment, NIA amendment, and Rajya Sabha. She could not get it passed in her previous term due to lack of majority in the Upper House.
