Panaji: The ruling BJP in Goa has decided to field candidates in 38 out of 40 seats in next month's assembly elections in the state. This was reported by a senior party functionary on Friday. The official said bjp will not field any candidate on its symbol in two assembly constituencies 'Benalim' and 'Nuvem'.

People from the same Benalim and Nuvem assembly constituencies traditionally vote for non-BJP candidates. Both of them are Christian-dominated seats. Benalim is currently represented by Churchill Alemao, who joined the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress last month after winning the election on a NCP ticket.

On the other hand, Nuvem is represented by Wilfred Deesa, who won the last election on a Congress ticket but later joined the BJP. The official said, "Formal announcements about the candidates will be made after January 16. When the parliamentary board of the party will allow the list. Bjp is holding its core committee meetings to finalise the names of the candidates.
