Shimla (Himachal Pradesh): On Saturday, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) workers held a 'Samosa March' in Shimla to protest the ongoing controversy surrounding samosas and cake that were mistakenly served to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s staff instead of him.

The issue began when the Himachal Pradesh CID launched an investigation into the mix-up, which occurred during a program at the CID headquarters. The food was meant for the Chief Minister but was wrongly served to his staff. CM Sukhu clarified that the investigation was related to an incident of misbehavior and accused the media of blowing the issue out of proportion.

The CID investigation aims to understand how the food, which was intended for the Chief Minister, ended up being served to his staff. The incident took place on October 21, during the inauguration of the Cyber Wing's new Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System (CFCFRMS) at the CID headquarters. The mix-up led to an inquiry conducted by a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) to identify the officers responsible.

According to the investigation, an Inspector General (IG) officer had instructed a sub-inspector to procure food from a five-star hotel in Shimla for the CM’s event. Three boxes of samosas and cake were picked up by an assistant sub-inspector and a head constable driver. These items were handed over to a woman officer of Inspector rank, who mistakenly instructed that the boxes be placed in a senior officer's room. The food was moved between rooms, and when questioned, the officers involved claimed they had confirmed with tourism department personnel on duty, who said the food wasn’t on the CM’s menu.

The investigation further revealed that an MTO (Motor Transport Officer) and HASI (Head Assistant Sub-Inspector) were tasked with managing refreshments for the CM’s staff. The woman Inspector was not informed that the items were meant for the CM. Without checking the boxes, she directed them to the MT section.

According to the testimonies, the boxes were eventually opened by a sub-inspector and a head constable, who served the food with tea to approximately 10-12 people in the room, including the DSP and staff in the IG’s office. Only a sub-inspector knew the food was for the CM, but the boxes were passed around without higher clearance, leading to the food being mistakenly served to the staff instead.
