BJPYM activist murder: 9 police from coastal districts to assist NIA

MANGALURU:  The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has assigned nine police officers from the Dakshina Kannada district and one from the Udupi district to help with the investigation into the killing of Praveen Nettaru, 34, a member of the BJP Yuva Morcha District Committee.

They are Head Constables M. Praveen, Praveen Rai, Adrama, Udaya Rai, Vivek Rai and Kumar, as well as Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) Prasanna of Karkala Rural and PSI Udaya Ravi of Puttur Rural.

These nine police officers would be on office duty (OOD) at the NIA's Bangalore office for one month, according to an order from the Additional Director General of Police M.A. Saleem.

On July 26, three motorcycle-riding males attacked Praveen in front of his chicken stand near the Puttur-Sullia road in Bellare.

Three suspects were detained by the police; they were all Sullia taluk residents and were Shiyabuddin, 33, Basheer, 29, and Riyaz Ankatadka, 27. For allegedly aiding the attackers, Zakir, 29, Shafiq, 27, Saddam, 32, Haris, 42, Abid, 22, Naufal, 28, and C.A. Abdul Kabeer, 33, were detained.

The NIA took up the probe on August 17 in response to a directive from the Union Home Ministry on August 3. The ten people that were detained have been in the care of the NIA.

Nettaru (32) was reportedly hacked to death by unidentified motorbike-borne assailants on July 26 night at Bellare in Dakshina Kannada district. Alok Kumar, additional director general of police said the three suspects were arrested while they were on the move to evade police.
