New Delhi: The engine of the trains will now be fitted with a black box-like aircraft for safe travel. The Railway Ministry has decided to install Loco Cab Audio Video (LCVR) equipment in the engine of all trains for the safe journey of passengers. In view of the success of the pilot project, the Ministry has approved the purchase of 480 such equipment. The device is like a black box used in aircraft. The device will be fitted with a microphone and audio video recorder.

This will be recorded during train operations. The camera outside the engine will also record the exterior views visible from the loco cab. According to officials, the information of the device will facilitate investigation in the event of an accident and ascertain the cause of the accident. The tool will be of great help in analyzing after the incident on the track. The device is fitted with a camera and microphone in the interior of the loco cab.

The second camera is installed outside the engine, which will protect the exterior view from the loco cab. The LCVR is also equipped with cameras and microphones that work at night. Digital memory will be installed in the device to store data. In case of an accident, it will work like a black box of the aircraft for analysis, if required. According to officials, 32 locomotive engines have been equipped with LCVR for testing. These include 25 diesel and 7 electric engines.
