Black fungus reported in several states of the country, uttarakhand registered first death

New Delhi: With the second wave of corona in the country, black fungus is also wreaking havoc. In many states, cases are on the rise after infecting people. Now, the first case of death due to black fungus in Uttarakhand has come to light. This is the first death recorded at AIIMS Rishikesh Hospital. The disease is also said to have been confirmed in 19 other patients undergoing treatment for covid infection here.

AIIMS Rishikesh Director Ravikant said that a 36-year-old corona-infected man who was referred from Dehradun on Thursday, May 13 died due to non-possibility of surgery for black fungus. Ravikant said that till date, 19 patients suffering from corona infection as well as black fungus disease are admitted in AIIMS Rishikesh out of which 11 patients are from Uttarakhand while eight are from Uttar Pradesh. Out of these 19 patients, two patients, though they are now corona-free. Ravikant said that out of these, 13 patients have undergone surgery on organs affected by black fungus while six other patients will still undergo surgery.

He said two patients suffering from black fungus had to have their eyes removed, while the rest had to cut bad nose bones with dead tissue and fungus. The Director said that a team of doctors from the AIIMS Institute is constantly monitoring the cases of black fungus.
