Blackberry has announced that BlackBerry Messenger BBM appears to have finally reached the end of the road the app is all set to shut down for good on May 31, 2019. BBM became an essential part of their phone using habits and for several years remained a major method of communication.

BBM provided a deep level of encryption and as such promised security unlike any other messaging app at that time did. However, its downfall came because the messaging service remained a Blackberry exclusive for a very long time and was released on iOS for the first time only in 2013. Over time, this led to the app losing out to rivals such as WhatsApp, WeChat, and other messaging apps.
