TEHRAN: The Unites State Secretary of State's comments about Tehran's military development were rebuked by the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, who claimed they were "aimed at marketing American weapons."
According to a statement posted on the website of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Nasser Kanaani made the statement on Sunday in reaction to a previous tweet by Antony Blinken, who claimed that they were "firmly committed to disrupting Iran's military procurement activities".
The aggressive comments made by the US State Secretary regarding Iran's military programme, according to Kanaani, were made exclusively with the intention of fomenting anti-Iran sentiment and causing strife among the nations in the region in order to promote American weapons.
He emphasised that the military buildup in Iran is "defensive and deterrent" in nature and not directed towards any nation that does not support "aggression" against Iran.
Insecurity, instability, and violence in the region, caused by US "unwise and erroneous" actions over the past few decades. Kanaani added that the US would be better off if it stopped using "wrong, meddling, and irresponsible" methods towards the countries in the region.
“Treasury will carry on to enforce its sanctions against Iran’s military procurement efforts that contribute to regional insecurity and global instability,” Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian E. Nelson said earlier.
