Mumbai: The BJP will not field its candidate against Shiv Sena for the post of Mayor of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the country's richest municipality, to be held on November 22. The last date for filing nomination for this post is Monday i.e. Aaj Tak. The alliance between the two allies has ended after the dispute between the Shiv Sena and the BJP over the post of CM.

The BMC also has BJP and Shiv Sena partners, but there has not been an official announcement to break the alliance between them. In the 227-member house of the BMC, the Shiv Sena has 94 members while the BJP has 82 members. It is being told that if the BJP formally withdraws support from the Shiv Sena here, then 30 members of the Congress and six NCP members can come to the rescue of the Shiv Sena. In 2019-20, the budget of BMC is Rs 30,692 crore, while in 2016-17, this budget was Rs 37,052 crore.

Due to such a huge budget, BMC's place in the country's politics is important. This budget is more than the budget of Nagaland, Meghalaya, Sikkim, and Goa. In the BMC elections of 2017, BJP and Shiv Sena contested separately. Shiv Sena won 84 seats and BJP 82 seats in this election. Subsequently, Shiv Sena had increased its strength in BMC to 94 by including seven members of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and three independents in its party.
