Mumbai: The BMC has taken a tough stand to prevent the coronavirus epidemic. Building society officials may have to go to jail for violating the law in sealed buildings of the maintenance zone. BMC has entrusted the office bearers, presidents and secretaries of the society to comply with the rules in the maintenance zone. If a resident violates the mandatory mandate period, a case can be filed against the management of the society under section 188 of the IPC.

On the other hand, if a human being poses a threat to life, health or safety, then violation of this section can lead to a jail term of one month or a fine of up to 200 rupees. The new rules have been implemented in Matunga, Sion, Dadar and Wadala in Mumbai. The BMC says that compliance with the rules depends on the housing societies, as the police cannot monitor the entire city round the clock during the epidemic.
