On Sunday evening, a bomb exploded in Shillong's crowded Police Bazar, prompting alarm among residents of the Meghalayan capital. So yet, no casualties have been reported, according to reports.

Police Bazar is a commercial building in Shillong's busy downtown district. The explosion took place near Delhi's Misthan Bhandar. A bomb squad arrived at the blast site after the explosion and is now assessing the area. Fortunately, as part of the Sunday lockdown due to Covid, all of the shops in the market were closed. According to reports, the entry to Police Bazar was immediately sealed following the explosion, and police are still investigating the cause of the blast.

Conrad Sangma, the chief minister of Meghalaya, tweeted his condemnation of the bomb "An effort to destabilise the peace and do harm is a despicable act. No one will be spared, including the perpetrators. We will work to maintain peace throughout the state." The explosion occurred in the midst of border disputes between Assam and Meghalaya. In six of the twelve shared areas, the two northeastern states have just lately agreed to settle decades-old boundary disputes.

A meeting between the administrations of the two neighbouring states was conducted earlier this week in Guwahati to address border concerns.
