Kolkata: A bomb blast rocked the residence of a BJP panchayat Pradhan in West Bengal's Haludbari village, situated in the Khejuri 2 block of East Midnapore district, on Saturday, May 11th. Reports indicate that six bombs were planted at the residence of the BJP leader, out of which two exploded. The Police managed to recover four active bombs before they could detonate. In addition to the blast, miscreants also set fire to a motorcycle parked outside the house of BJP panchayat Pradhan, Nitai Mondal.

Upon receiving the information, a police team from Khejuri police station rushed to the blast site in the early hours of Saturday. The Police are currently conducting a thorough search and have heightened security in the region. They are also analyzing CCTV footage to apprehend the culprits. Speaking to the media, the son of BJP Pradhan Nitai Mondal, Satyajit Mondal, stated, "Last night, around 12:40 AM, we heard a bomb blast on our terrace. We were awake and heard a few people. We did not go out. We knew someone had set fire to the bike and car."

He further added, "I called my mother; she was worried. The police officials arrived soon after. We can't say specifically who did this. I am guessing whoever did this, knew my father well. Outsiders wouldn't know much about my house, including where the cameras are placed. We are mostly involved in our studies and don't indulge in politics."

The state has been witnessing a series of political violence, killings, and bomb blasts. In many cases, minors have suffered severe injuries, including deaths, after mistakenly picking up bombs as toys. Similarly, in several incidents, "cottage industries" involved in making such bombs or houses storing such explosives have exploded due to various accidents, resulting in injuries and fatalities. On April 16th, 2024, bombs hidden at a house in Murshidabad exploded due to intense heat, prompting blame games between Congress and TMC.

Days later, on April 26th, 2024, the CBI recovered a large cache of arms and crude bombs in Sandeshkhali village in North 24 Parganas district of the State. A team of the National Security Guard (NSG) was brought in after the discovery of the arms, armaments, and explosives in Sandeshkhali. Reports suggest that foreign weapons as well as crude bombs were recovered from the house of a man named Abu Taleb in Sandeshkhali.
