Bomb Threat Hits Chandigarh Mental Health Institute, Patients and Staff Evacuated, Report

A mental health institute in Chandigarh faced a bomb threat via email on Wednesday, prompting the evacuation of patients and staff as authorities conducted a thorough search operation. According to police officials, the threat extended beyond Chandigarh, with similar emails reportedly sent to hospitals in Delhi and southern India.

Chandigarh police mobilized swiftly, deploying bomb disposal squads and fire department officials to the site. As of now, the search of the premises at the Mental Health Institute in Sector 32 has yielded no explosives or suspicious items.

The Deputy Medical Superintendent of the institute addressed the media, confirming the receipt of the threatening email in the morning. At the time of the threat, there were approximately 100 individuals, including patients, doctors, and other staff members, present at the hospital.

"We received an email indicating the presence of a bomb in our hospital. This email was also sent to several psychiatry hospitals across the country. The sender's identity remains unknown, and the email was sent from a personal email address," the official stated.

The police have initiated an investigation into the matter, focusing on identifying the sender and verifying the credibility of the threat. Further updates are awaited as the situation develops
