Mumbai: The Bombay High Court has issued a directive to the police last Friday not to arrest Parambir Singh, who served as commissioner of Mumbai Police, in a case registered under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act by May 23. In fact, Parambir had filed a petition in the court recently requesting quashing of the FIR lodged against him and a CBI inquiry into the matter. A bench of Justices SJ Kathawala and SP Tawde heard the petition last Friday. On the other hand, the Anti Corruption Bureau has also registered a complaint against Parambir Singh in a corruption related case.
Parambir Singh's lawyer argued that the former Commissioner of Police had levelled corruption allegations against former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh. An FIR was lodged against him for that reason but the government said "the complaint revealed the crime due to which an FIR was lodged." The bench now questioned the timing of the FIR being lodged. In fact, the bench adjourned the hearing in the case till Monday and directed the police not to arrest Parambir Singh in the case till then.
On the other hand, a complaint has been lodged against Parambir Singh, former police officer Pradeep Sharma and Inspector Rajkumar Kothmyer in the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on charges of extortion and corruption. In fact, last Friday, an official said that Virar builder Mayuresh Raut had lodged a complaint with the Director General of ACB on Wednesday. The complainant has accused the officers of extorting money, cars, property and documents from Singh during his stay as police commissioner of Thane.
