On Thursday, the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court said in one of its decisions that rallies and public meetings serve as safety valves. The police cannot deny permission to hold a public meeting only on the grounds that it will cause law and order problems.

According to the media report, the bench made the remarks while hearing the petition of a Bhim Army leader in which he has challenged the police's decision not to allow the rally at Reshimbagh Maidan on 22 February. The bench said that fundamental rights should not be cut. Reshimbag Maidan is close to the headquarters of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
