Mumbai: The Bombay High Court refused to show any mercy on the appeal of a man convicted of killing his wife. During the hearing, the High Court rejected the plea of the guilty husband, in which he said that he was provoked by the wife's refusal to make tea. The court said that wife is not an asset or object. The medieval concept of treating a wife as property, unfortunately still remains in the mindset of many.

35-year-old Santosh Mahadev Attkar of Solapur in Maharashtra used to dispute with his wife often. He suspected that she was cheating on him. On 19 December 2013, the victim Manisha was leaving the house without preparing tea. Due to which the couple got into a fight. Meanwhile, Santosh got angry and hit his wife's head with a hammer. Manisha was injured by a hammer injury, after which the husband cleaned the blood stains and took her to the hospital. But Manisha died on 25 December during treatment.

The case reached the court and on 1 July 2016, the Pandharpur court convicted Santosh and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 5000. In this case, the High Court was hearing the appeal of Santosh Mahadev Attkar against the sentence. During the hearing, Justice Revathi Mohite Dere dismissed Santosh's plea that his wife refused to make tea and gave him a reason to flare suddenly. Judge Revathi denied the argument that marriage is based on partnership. The medieval notion of considering a wife as property is completely wrong.
