Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai emphasized on Sunday that agriculture universities should conduct field research instead of campus-based research. He was speaking after the GKVK campus hosted the World Bank-funded national Reward project and the Watershed Centre of Excellence.
Karnataka has ten agro-climatic zones, and we grow a variety of crops such as ragi, jowar, pepper, and coffee. Karnataka has been blessed by nature. Scientific schemes should be pursued by the Agriculture Department. Bommai focused, agroforestry, horticulture, and dairy farming should all be linked with cropland.
"The manufacturing of seeds requires serious consideration. To combat the threat of spurious seeds, more vigilance is required. From seed development to commercialization, the entire process is monitored "said Bommai. Concerns about counterfeit seeds were addressed by the Chief Minister, who stated that increased vigilance was required to combat the threat of spurious seeds.
Prime Minister Modi has inaugurated the Amrit Sarovar Mission initiative to revive at least 75 irrigation lakes in a district, Bommai said, emphasising the importance of groundwater recharge. The project will be effectively implemented in the state, he added.
