If you are planning for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra then this is a must-read article for you. To the joy of all pilgrims keen on traveling to the sacred Kailash Mountain, also known as the Mount Meru, the registration process has kicked-off February 20 onwards and will go on till March 23, 2018. The declaration was made by the Ministry of External Affairs on Wednesday that the two usual routes – the Nathu La Pass in Sikkim and Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand – will be thrown open for the pilgrims this year. Apparently, the Chinese authorities have given their nod of approval to the yatra in 2018, months after keeping the traditional routes closed due to the Doklam issue in 2017.

As per a statement issued by the ministry on Wednesday, the route comprises landmark places. For example, Narayan Ashram, Patal Bhuvaneshwar, and other sacred places fall under this route. The pilgrims also get a chance to witness the wonderful formation of snow in the form of ‘OM’ on Chialekh Valley aka the Om Parvat.

The route through Nathu La Pass is motorable and suitable for senior citizens unable to undertake arduous trekking. Using this route will cost about Rs 2 lakh per person and duration of the yatra is 21 days, including three days in Delhi for preparatory work. This year, 10 batches of 50 pilgrims each are scheduled for this route." The statement also mentioned that the route covers beautiful locales such as Hangu Lake and the stunning landscapes of the Tibetan plateau.

Even this year, the ministry will be giving preference to first-time applicants, doctors and married pairs for the hallowed pilgrimage.

Priority for Senior Citizen

Senior citizens will be given priority on the Nathu La passage, as confirmed by the ministry. "Senior citizens would have priority on the Nathu La route if they opt for it. Two persons may apply and undertake the yatra together, subject to conditions. Yatris can select both routes indicating priority or select only one of the routes. They will be allotted a route and batch through computerized draw of lots,” revealed the Ministry of External Affairs in the statement.

 Registration Information

To register for the pilgrimage, applicants can log on to https://kmy.gov.in. The online registration process involves uploading the scanned pages of passport having personal information, address, and the latest photograph. Applicants will be chosen via a computerized draw of lots, gender-balanced selection procedure. Notification regarding selection will be given to the lucky applicants through SMS or automated email. Once the selection process is over, the applicants will be required to pay the confirmation fee, as given on the websites, in order to secure their position.
