To say that the COVID19 pandemic has turned our lives upside down would be stating the obvious. However, on the positive side, it has brought a surge in online entertainment. One saw people being hooked to OTT platforms and fed on them hungrily. Social media kept everyone busy till everyone got bored of the screen. Social media detox, online detox have now become buzzwords. In such a scenario, people are turning to short stories to satisfy their need for instant entertainment.

Mumbai-based author Mayura Amarkant recognised this unmet requirement and released a delightful book called ‘Trapped in Heaven & Other Stories’. It contains 9 short stories on love and relationships that has received world-wide praise. Her stories will take you down memory lane and tickle you with the emotions that you might have buried for a while.

“In Mayura’s debut attempt, she has excelled at portraying love, emotions, and relationships in myriad shades that are delicately woven around the gripping characters and situations. These intensely addictive and well-articulated love stories are a sinful indulgence that will leave you asking for more!! The 9 short stories speak about love, sex and dhoka, love’s labor lost, feminism win-win and shades of grey- all creating their own impressive trajectories in the reader’s mind!!” exclaims Chicago-based author, Daisy Bala.

The e-book and paperback are available worldwide on Amazon.  Indian readers can pick up the paperback on Notion Press or Amazon India. Amazon India also has a kindle version for those comfortable with e-reading formats.

The stories speak to the heart and mind as they tell you more about the past while exploring the possibilities of our future. Each story nudges the fabric of the reader’s spirit.Sachin Shanbhag, a senior insurance professional from Mumbai says, “With only 58 pages, this book is perfect for that lazy afternoon when you want to read something light and yet tug at your heartstrings at the end of it.Mayura's language is impeccable but she has kept the prose easy enough for readers of all levels to reflect on and enjoy. Each story taps on a particular nuance of the beautiful, complicated yet simple conundrum we call ‘love’.”

Mayura’s style of writing is such that you can actually sense the story moving like a movie in front of you. All your senses are activated. The simple formula she uses to get this effect on her readers is that she always keeps her readers in mind. She gets under the skin of her characters and in fact starts believing that they are real. Once you start reading her book, you too will feel the same. Although she writes fiction, it’s very relatable.

The woman characters in Trapped in Heaven have appealed to many readers who have been generous in their praise. They are eagerly awaiting her next book. Dubai-based, homemaker, Amita Jain excitedly said, “I simply LOVED the way the author has created the woman characters in this book. Mayura Amarkant has a knack of exploring every facet of a woman and presenting it in a gripping narrative. I binge-read the book simply because I just couldn’t put down once I started. ‘No Filter’ and ‘Sealed with a Kiss’ were my favourite stories. I am eagerly awaiting the next book of this amazing writer.”

When asked why she chose romance as the genre for her book, Mayura Amarkant replies, “Romance as a genre works better with readers. However, there are more heartbroken people than those in love. So, writing a book on love, longing, and relationships was a conscious decision I made.Honestly, I wanted my readers to look beyond romantic love and explore its different aspects. As I said earlier, love is a vague word and one can feel love towards people, places, objects, and experiences. There are so many shades and languages of love and exploring them through the stories was a fun process.” In the near future, Mayura has a series of books lined up. Her next one is a psychological thriller novel called, ‘Jhumki’.
