New Delhi: The Central government has justified its decision to sack Indian Air Force officers after accidentally firing the BrahMos missile towards Pakistan in March 2022. The Centre on Friday opposed wing commander Abhinav Sharma's plea in the Delhi High Court, saying his mistake not only led to further souring of India's relations with the neighbouring country but also caused a loss of Rs 24 crore to the country.

According to the report, Wing Commander Abhinav Sharma had filed a petition in the Delhi High Court against his dismissal. Against this, the central government filed an affidavit in the court saying that the sensitivity of the matter should be looked into and it also needs to be noted that the international community is showing interest in knowing important practical details about the missile launch. The Centre said the decision to terminate the service of the Wing Commander was taken in view of the sensitivity of the matter. He said that this case can have a huge impact on the security of the country, so such a decision had to be taken in the Indian Air Force after 23 years.

At the same time, Abhinav Sharma argued that the professional and practical training given to him was only related to the maintenance of the missile and not its operation. He said in his plea filed through advocate Jaitegan Singh that he has fully performed his duty on the basis of combat SOP and the incident that took place is only related to operations. Abhinav Sharma has filed this petition under Section 18 of the Air Force Act 1950.
