Lucknow: Mafia don Brijesh Singh, who has been lodged in Varanasi jail for the last 12 years, has been granted bail in the infamous Usar Chatti case of Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh. Brijesh Singh, accused of assaulting former MLA Mukhtar Ansari, has been granted conditional bail in the Allahabad High Court. On July 15, 2001, the convoy of the then MLA Mukhtar Ansari from Mau in Usar Chatti area of Mohammadabad police station area was attacked by Brajesh Singh and Tribhuvan Singh on July 15, 2001, in Ghazipur.

Three persons, including Mukhtar Ansari's gunner, lost their lives in the attack that took place at 12:30 pm. Brijesh Singh was also injured in this attack and it was only then that there was a discussion that Brijesh Singh was killed in cross firing. For many years Brijesh Singh remained underground and ran his business secretly. Brijesh Singh was awarded a reward of Rs 5 lakh by the UP Police after the Delhi Special Cell arrested him dramatically from Bhubaneswar. After the arrest made by the Delhi Special Cell, Brijesh Singh moved to Uttar Pradesh and has been lodged in Varanasi jail for a long time.

Now, a single bench of Justice Arvind Kumar Mishra in the Allahabad High Court has granted conditional bail to Brijesh Singh in the Usar Chatti case in Ghazipur. In support of the bail, the petitioner's side said that he has been in jail since 2009 in the case. Even after the high court's direction, the trial in this Ghazipur case has not started so far, only one testimony has been completed. The Allahabad High Court had earlier rejected the bail of Brijesh Singh in the case and directed the trial court, which was hearing the trial, to complete the trial in a year, but even after the passage of one year, the trial could not be completed, on which Brijesh Singh had re-applied for bail in the High Court.
