SAO PAULO: Violence erupted in two groups on Monday inside a prison in Brazil's northern province of Para, killing 57 prisoners. The administration has given this information. According to a report by news agency AFE, the atrocity continued for five hours at the jail in Altamira, located 850 km from the province's capital Belem, and was finally controlled after a joint effort by various government agencies.

While 16 of the dead were separated from their heads, 41 died of suffocation due to a cell fire by a group. "It was a local attack to wipe out the other group," Jarbas Vasconcelos, head of the provincial prison system, told the press. They (the attackers) entered, hit and set fire to them. "

The prison management said that as soon as the inmates in one part of the jail sat for breakfast, the assailants from another cell forcibly entered and started attacking their enemies with indigenous weapons. Two personnel held hostage during the attack were later released safely, while two others were hospitalized for treatment in critical condition. Officials said the situation is still normal.
