Kharkopar: 3 coaches of a local train from Belapur to Kharkopar on the Central Railway's trans harbour line derailed on Tuesday, February 28, morning, the Railway officials said. More information is awaited.
According to Shivaji Sutar, CPRO of Central Railway, the incident took place at 8:46 am while the train was nearing the Kharkopar station.
Sutar tweeted that relief trains had left for the area and that restoration work had started in earnest. He also noted that the trains on the Belapur-Kharkopar-Nerul line will not be running for the time being. He continued by saying that the harbour line trains were running on time.
Earlier on February 23, up to 13 waggons of a goods train derailed close to a sub-line of the specifically designated freight corridor between the railway stations of Dehri Pahleja and Karabandia in Bihar.
According to officials, the incident occurred on the Gaya-DDU stretch close to Tendua Dusadhi village and caused delays on the designated freight corridor. Six carriages of the Visakhapatnam-Hyderabad Godavari Express derailed earlier this month between Bibinagar and Ghatkesar in the Telangana city of Secunderabad.
At Sivalingapuram station in the Kottavalasa - Araku Section of Andhra Pradesh, the wheels of a general coach from the Visakhapatnam-Kirandul train derailed in January of this year. Up to six carriages of a cargo train derailed last month close to the Rohtak town of Samargopalpur. The train was travelling from Delhi to Suratgarh via Rohtak. A train derailed in the same month as it approached the train station in the Mazhama neighbourhood in the Budgam district of Jammu & Kashmir.
Following the derailment of the Bandra Terminus-Jodhpur Suryanagari Express train near Pali in Rajasthan at the beginning of January, six long-distance trains of the Western Railway were cancelled and six others were diverted, North Western Railway (NWR) informed.
