NEW DELHI: After being delayed for many hours, an Air India flight from Chicago to Delhi was cancelled, leaving almost 300 people stranded. On March 15, the flight was scheduled to arrive in Delhi at 2:20 p.m. local time on Tuesday from Chicago O'Hare International Airport.

Although passengers claimed that they were not told about the delays and that the airline did not give them with alternative plans to reach their destination until Wednesday evening, media reports claim that the cancellation was caused by technical issues.

Passengers expressed their frustration at the lack of a firm timetable for when they would be allowed to take a flight to Delhi. Gopal Krishan Solanki, a passenger, claimed that although the airline eventually offered hotel accommodations, these arrangements were made very late and passengers were kept waiting for a very long time without learning anything about their flights or accommodations.

An Air India official stated that technical issues led to the cancellation of the flight. According to reports, the airline provided assistance and accommodations on different flights for impacted guests. The spokesperson expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers.

A total of 1,171 flights were cancelled in 2022 for technical reasons, up from 931 in 2021 but down from 1,481 in 2020, according to current data from the Indian government.
