Hyderabad: Roopa Devi, the wife of Dr. Medipally Satyam, a Congress legislator from Choppadandi constituency, allegedly died by suicide on Wednesday night, police sources confirmed.
Roopa Devi, who resided in Panchasheel Colony in Alwal and worked as a government school teacher, was discovered hanging from the ceiling late in the evening. Family members broke into the room and rushed her to a private hospital, but she passed away while receiving treatment.
Upon receiving information, Alwal police arrived at the hospital and transferred the body to Gandhi Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination. Authorities have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances that led to her death. Initial reports suggest that there were some marital issues between Roopa Devi and Dr. Satyam. Despite the MLA's preference to move to the MLA Quarters residence, Roopa Devi remained at their family home in Alwal.
Dr. Medipally Satyam, who won the recent assembly elections from the Choppadandi constituency in Karimnagar district on a Congress ticket, has previously contested twice without success. Upon hearing the news, the MLA returned to the city and spoke with police officials.
The police have registered a case and are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of this tragic incident.
