A tragic incident unfolded in Kedarnath on Saturday morning when a helicopter crashed during a rescue operation. The helicopter, which was experiencing technical issues, was being airlifted by an Indian Army chopper when the towing rope suddenly snapped, causing the helicopter to plummet from the sky.

A defective helicopter being airlifted from Uttarakhand's Kedarnath by an MI-17 chopper fell from mid-air this morning after the towing rope snapped. The helicopter, operated by a private company, crashed near the Mandakini River. It is unclear if there were any injuries from the accident, which was captured on camera.

The helicopter, already in a compromised state, was being lifted for repairs when the accident occurred. The cause of the crash was traced back to the failure of the towing rope, which was being used to hoist the defective chopper.

Rain-triggered landslides along the route from Gaurikund to Kedarnath stranded thousands of people, leading the administration to initiate a large-scale rescue operation. The effort was supported by Air Force Chinook and MI17 helicopters, along with private choppers.

This unfortunate event highlights the risks involved in rescue and recovery operations, especially in challenging environments like Kedarnath.
