USA: According to the British Ministry of Defence, Russia is preparing to encircle the city of Bakhmut in Donetsk Oblast on Saturday.

The ministry said in a daily intelligence update that while the capture of the city would be of limited operational value, it could allow Russia to threaten Kramatorsk and Sloviansk.

According to the ministry's update on Twitter, "There is a real possibility that the capture of Bakhmut has developed primarily as a symbolic, political objective for Russia."
