Britney Spears and Elton John have released their long-awaited new duet “Hold Me Closer.” It was made available through streaming providers on Friday at 00:00 on the East Coast, and a formal audio video made its debut on John's YouTube website with the straightforward statement, “Elton John & Britney Spears's new single ‘Hold Me Closer’ is out now!”
The two have been teasing their cooperation for several weeks. Its actual title was unveiled on August 19 following the announcement of its pre-order availability and cover art preview on August 8. The first three words of the chorus of John's 1971 hit served as the inspiration for the song's title, “Tiny Dancer,” which he co-wrote for the Madman Across the Water album with his longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin.
One of Spears' first significant albums after the 2016 release of Glory and her first new songs following the conclusion of her 13-year conservatory is "Hold Me Close."
In a series of tweets on Aug. 24, just two days ahead of the song’s release, Spears expressed her excitement over the song release. “Okie dokie … my first song in 6 years,” she tweeted. “It’s pretty damn cool that I’m singing with one of the most classic men of our time … @eltonofficial !!!! I’m kinda overwhelmed… it’s a big deal to me.”
The song was previewed by John several times before it was released. This features footage of him performing a brief preview of the song in front of an enthusiastic crowd at La Guérite in Cannes before sharing a longer excerpt of the song along with an animated rose and rocket. Spears also shared a taster of the song on Instagram, however as of Thursday night, she has deleted the account.
