Broken English is 'no problem' for foreign minister Sushma Swaraj

Recently, a Twitter user from Punjab sought help from foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj for a friend struggling with mental health problems, the sentences in his tweet were not very clear. But the user was able to communicate his intent of brining his friend back to India for treatment. The tweet was immediately flagged by other users for its broken English. Some even said the man should’ve written his request in Hindi or Punjabi.

Foreign Minister's  reply to the man’s tweet silenced the trollers almost immediately.

Swaraj wrote on Twitter, “There is no problem. After becoming Foreign Minister,  I have learnt to follow English of all accents and grammar,”

Her reply received more than 3,200 retweets and was liked by close to 20,000 users. Some users even lauded her for her modesty and ‘great’ sense of humour.

Swaraj is India's second woman to be the foreign minister after Indira Gandhi. Since taking charge as the foreign minister in May 2014, Swaraj has travelled across the world and has interacted with leaders and diplomats from various countries.
