In a painstaking search operation undertaken in the difficult territories in the hours of darkness, a joint team of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police on Wednesday seized nearly 72 kg of Brown Sugar from Kamu in Thoubal district of Manipur. The market value of brown sugar has been valued Rs.287 crores. Notably, it is one of the biggest consignments of Brown Sugar seized in the recent past in Manipur.
Acting on an intelligence input, the joint team of Assam Police and Manipur Police on Wednesday raided a distribution of hub of narcotic drugs.
From prima facie investigation, it has come to spotlight that taking advantage of the porous international border the consignment of Brown Sugar was smuggled in from Myanmar. Several international drugs smuggling networks are active in Manipur, and engaged in transhipping the consignments to different states in India.
Assam Rifles and Manipur Police force in close coordination with Customs (Preventive) and Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB) teams in Manipur to stop the smuggling of narcotic drugs and other psychotropic drugs along the Myanmar border.
