NEW DELHI: In a bid to reassure local communities along the India-Bangladesh border, the Border Security Force (BSF) conducted a series of coordination meetings in border villages on Thursday. The aim was to address current border concerns and foster a sense of security among residents.

A senior BSF officer explained, "We held village meetings near border outposts to inform locals about the situation in Bangladesh and other border-related issues. This was done with the presence of key local figures, such as Sarpanch and Pradhan, to ensure that everyone feels secure."

On August 7, gatherings of Bangladeshi nationals were reported near the International Boundary (IB) in two sectors. These gatherings were driven by fears of domestic unrest in Bangladesh. The BSF, displaying high vigilance and proactive measures, quickly responded to secure the border and ensure the safety of the gathered individuals.

In one sector, coordinated efforts by the BSF, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and local civil authorities helped reassure the gathered individuals, leading to the return of around 35 civilians to their homes. Additional BSF forces have been deployed to manage the situation more effectively.

In another sector, a brief disturbance occurred when a group of Bangladeshi villagers approached the IB. The BSF intervened swiftly, resolving the situation peacefully and ensuring the villagers returned home without further incident. BSF personnel remain on high alert in the area.

Another significant event involved thwarting a major infiltration attempt. A large crowd of Bangladeshi nationals was observed near the border. The BSF acted quickly, working with the BGB to disperse the crowd and prevent any breach of the International borders.

Despite circulating rumors, the BSF has clarified that there is no large-scale movement of Bangladesh's minority population towards India. The gatherings were mainly driven by fears of local unrest. The BSF, in collaboration with BGB and Bangladeshi authorities, has reassured these individuals of their safety and encouraged them to return home.

The BSF North Bengal Frontier remains dedicated to upholding border security and ensuring the safety of all in the region. The forces continue to monitor the situation closely and are prepared to handle any developments.
