Lucknow: Mayawati, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo, dismissed Akhilesh Yadav's comments regarding her prospects of becoming President of the country, saying she has never desired to be one and that the Samaj Party leader was fantasising about it in order to pave his road to become chief minister.
Mayawati's comments come a day after Yadav said in Mainpuri that the BSP had "transferred its votes to the BJP in the Uttar Pradesh elections." In exchange, it will be interesting to watch if the BJP makes Mayawati President or not". The BSP leader and former chief minister claimed she never imagined herself in this position.
"I never saw myself as the country's president."All I know is that the work I'm doing to help the downtrodden get back on their feet can be accomplished by becoming chief minister and prime minister, but not president, so the Samajwadi Party should forget about it," Mayawati told reporters in New Delhi.
According to the BSP president, the SP leader wishes to make me President of the country in order to clear the way for him to become the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.
