BSP lashes out at Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and congress over 40 percent ticket to women

Lucknow: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Wednesday termed the Congress' announcement of 40 percent reservation for women in the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh as an electoral gimmick. The BSP asked why the scheme was not announced in other electoral states. Party spokesperson Sudhindra Bhadauria said the Congress party has a long history of deceit. He said assembly elections are going to be held in five states. Don't women live in other States?

Earlier, BSP supremo Mayawati attacked the Congress, which announced that 40 percent tickets will be given to women in Uttar Pradesh's upcoming assembly elections, saying the party government has not taken any strong steps for the welfare of half the population. The BSP supremo also said that if Congress wanted to give fair participation to women, why did it not enact a law to provide 33 percent reservation to women in Parliament and assemblies during its tenure.

Mayawati further said, "When the Congress is in power and has good days, it does not remember anyone like Dalits, backward and women, but now that their bad days are not going away, they have remembered women in Uttar Pradesh like Dalits in Punjab. The announcement of 40 percent tickets to women is a blank election drama of the Congress.''
