BTS to perform for world leaders at UN 'Global Goals' event

BTS, a Korean pop band, is set to perform at the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals event on Monday, according to media reports.

"Watch live as world leaders join @antonioguterres & special guests @BTS_twt at our SDG Moment event to inspire action for the #GlobalGoals & a better world for everyone. Tune in here Monday, 20 September at 8am EST!," tweeted the United Nations on Monday morning.

 


Actor Forest Whitaker, Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg, human rights campaigner Malala Yousafzai, director/screenwriter Richard Curtis (Bridget Jones' Diary), youth activist Valentina Muoz, and teen climate activist Greta Thunberg have all been recognized as Sustainable Development Goals Advocates.

According to a statement on the SDG Moment 2021 campaign, the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals are a "blueprint for combating poverty and hunger, tackling the climate catastrophe, attaining gender equality, and much more."

BTS tweeted about their battle for one of the Moment's goals last week, stating, "We will find a way if we think there is hope. We oppose racial discrimination as well as hate speech. Blackpink, a Korean female pop band, has been named as an ambassador for the United Nations Conference on Climate Change in 2020.

Blackpink said in a statement about their objective of encouraging young people to take climate action and make a good impact in the community, "We are firm believers in the value of collective action. Only by working together for the greater good will we be able to make a difference. Now is the moment to take action in order to ensure a safer tomorrow and a brighter future.
