NEW DELHI: On the occasion of Buddha Purnima on Monday, Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama urged people to pay more attention to Gautama Buddha's words in order to achieve true peace of mind.

The Dalai Lama remarked in a video message on Vaishakha Buddha Purnima Divas, which was organised by the International Buddhist Confederation and supported by the Ministry of Culture,  "Today is Vesak, the Buddhist festival that commemorates the Buddha's enlightenment after six years of discipline. 'O monks and scholars, just as gold is examined by heating, cutting, and rubbing it, so should you  thoroughly examine my teaching and only then accept it - not just out of respect for me!', Buddha had urged.   This (perspective) displays a unique aspect of the Buddha. All religious traditions are respected by me. They're all valuable because they instil compassion. Only the Buddha, on the other hand, urges us to evaluate his teaching in the same manner that a goldsmith examines gold purity. This is something only the Buddha orders."

'Sages do not wash away unwholesome deeds with water, nor do they eliminate the miseries of sentient beings with their hands, nor do they transplant their own realisations into others; rather, they liberate people by teaching the reality of suchness,' he stated "Tibetan spiritual teacher said.  The Dalai Lama reminded his followers that Buddha had encouraged them to build their own spiritual experiences by reflecting on the truth.
