Buddha Purnima, celebrated every year, is scheduled to be celebrated on May 26, 2021 this year. Tell all of you that Buddha Purnima is important not only for Buddhism but also for Hindu sacraments. Buddha is said to be the ninth incarnation of Vishnu. Buddha Purnima is also considered sacred for Hindus. Tell all of you that Buddha Purnima is also known as Vaisakh Purnima. In fact, this is the birth anniversary of Gautam Buddha and his Nirvana Day. It is said that it was on this day that Lord Buddha attained Enlightenment. It is said that after leaving home, Siddhartha wandered in the forest for seven years and then performed rigorous penance and eventually attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya on the day of Vaisakh Purnima. Since then this day has been known as Buddha Purnima. Let us know some important things.
1. It is said that Sri Lankans celebrate this day as 'Vesak' festival which is a degeneration of the word 'Vaisakh'.
2. It is said that this is the day when Buddhists light lamps in houses and decorate houses with flowers.
3. Let us tell you that followers of Buddhism from all over the world come to Bodh Gaya and pray.
4. It is said that the scriptures of Buddhism are recited continuously on this day.
5. On this day incense sticks are installed in temples and houses and the idol is worshipped by offering flowers, lighting lamps.
6. Bodhi tree is worshipped on this day. Therefore, necklaces and colourful flag are decorated on its branches. In addition, milk and aromatic water are added to the roots.
7. Meat is not eaten on this day because buddha was opposed to animal violence.
8. It is said that good deeds done on this day lead to virtue.
9. It is said that on this day only birds are freed from cages and released into the open sky.
10. Food and clothing are given to the poor on this day.
