NEW DELHI: The Central government will appoint 38,800 teachers and staff for 740 Eklavya Model Schools, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced this while presenting the Union budget in Parliament on Wednesday.

"A National Digital Library will be set up in India. There will be 157 new nursing colleges to be built. For artificial intelligence, three premier institutes will be created. 47 lakh young people will benefit from the National Apprenticeship Program "said Sitharaman.

The  finance minister said, 157 new nursing colleges would be constructed in conjunction with the 157 medical colleges that have already been operating since 2014. The Government of India has a programme called Eklavya Model Residential School. This programme is particularly beneficial for educating Scheduled Tribes across India.

Associated with the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs is this plan. The program's goal is to guarantee that tribal youngsters in isolated tribal regions receive high-quality education.

The Center has set a goal of training 47 lakh adolescents in 3 years, which is included in the Union budget for this year. In addition, the Union budget proposed additional projects connected to PMKVY 4.0, the national apprentice programme, job training in conjunction with industry in areas including coding, IOT, drones, Mechatronics, and Artificial Intellegence.

5G centre in 100 engineering colleges is appreciated, by the educationists.  The digital and physical opening of libraries in rural areas was announced by the Union Finance Minister. According to educational institutions, it will significantly raise both the literacy rate and enrollment ratio in rural India.

The Education Ministry received Rs. 1.12 lakh crore this year, an increase of 8% from Rs. 1.04 lakh crore in 2022–23.
Prof Vice Chancellor, Pro Arvind Chaturvedi,  IILM University Gurugram, said, 8% increase is not sufficient. Higher allocation was expected this year, in that sense it is disappointing.

"The idea to transform "District Institutes of Education & Training" into thriving centres of excellence is something I applaud, nevertheless. Liberal funds should have been provided for private education providers in the higher education sector since India presently has more private universities than state and federal universities. The introduction of National Data Governance is a positive development in a related field "said Prof. Chaturvedi.

Nirmala Sitharaman said, a National Digital Library will be set up to promote the education of children and adolescents. She informed that the National Digital Library will be opened up to the panchayat and ward level. Books according to every age will be available in the National Digital Library. Apart from Hindi and English, books will also be made available in various regional languages.
