Budget 2023: Data Governance Policy will be brought out...

NEW DELHI: In her presentation of the Union Budget 2023 in New Delhi, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that a National Data Governance Policy will be brought out so as to enable access to anonymized data.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said  the Parliament that the idea was being chaulked out by the Ministry of Electronics and IT since 2020, and a draft of this policy has been put out.

The policy targetted to provide an institutional framework for metadata rules/data/datasets, standard guidelines and protocols for sharing of non-personal data sets while keeping it privacy factors, security and trust.

As per  a press release by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology in July 2022, the Draft National Data Governance Framework Policy intended to ensure that non-personal data and anonymized data from both Government and Private companies are safely accessible by Research and Innovation eco-system.

The government won't be able to violate citizens' privacy under the proposed data protection law, according to MoS Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar's comments from November 2022, as the government will only have access to personal information in exceptional situations like emergencies involving the nation's security, pandemics, or natural disasters.
