In the latest Budget announcement for 2024, Union Finance Minister Niramala Sitharaman has revealed ambitious plans to boost tourism infrastructure across various Indian islands, including Lakshadweep. The focus is on enhancing port connectivity and amenities to cater to the growing interest in domestic tourism.

"To cater to the increasing interest in domestic tourism, we will be implementing projects to improve port connectivity, tourism infrastructure, and amenities on our islands, including Lakshadweep," stated Sitharaman during her budget presentation today.

This move comes amidst concerns raised by the External Affairs Minister regarding the negative aspects of globalization. While acknowledging its benefits, the minister cautioned against its weaponization, particularly in areas such as currency, trade, and tourism, which can lead to economic power imbalances favoring certain regions at the expense of others.
