Budget Day: PM Modi arrives in Parliament

New Delhi [India], Feb 1 (NT): PM Modi arrived in Parliament after Finance Minister Arun Jaitley step in Parliament on Thursday morning, ahead of the presentation of the Union Budget 2018-19.

PM Narendra Modi and Union Ministers Sushma Swaraj and Ram Vilas Paswan together crossed the doorstep of the Parliament .

Jaitley, who examined the final copy of the document on Wednesday evening here, is expected to present the Budget in Parliament around 11 a.m., post a cabinet meeting.

Arun Jaitley is also expected to address the media at around 3.30 p.m. this afternoon.

FM Jaitley, carrying the emblematic cherry-brown briefcase containing the Budget Papers, was seen earlier at the Ministry of Finance (North Block) along with Finance Secretary Dr Hasmukh Adhia, Chief Economic Adviser Arvind Subramanian, Economic Affairs Secretary Subhash Chandra Garg and others.

 Following Union Budget 2018 the rupee weakened by 9 paise to 63.67 against the US dollar and Sensex jumps nearly 135 points and ahead of the budget.

Sensex starts on a positive note ahead of New India Budget, jumps nearly 135 points to 36,100; Nifty up over 40 points to 11,068.

This will be the last full-fledged budget of the Modi-led government and the first after the rollout of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). (NT)
