Budget Session Live: Need to build Aatmanirbhar Bharat by 2047, says Murmu

NEW DELHI: in her pre-budget address to the joint session of Parliament on Tuesday, President Droupadi Murmu said that  India has entered Amrit Kaal completing its 75 years of Independence and in this citizens have to focus on their duty towards building a  self-reliant India ('Aatmanirbhar Bharat).

President Murmu said, "by 2047, India to build a nation that will be connected to the pride of the past and which will have all the golden chapters of modernity. We have to build an India that will be 'Aatmanirbhar' and capable to fulfill its humanitarian duties."

President Murmu gave her first address to the combined session of the Lok Sabha and Rajay Sabha in the main chamber of Parliament "India has just celebrated its 75th anniversary of independence. Amrit Kaal is the period during which India gained its independence and began to prosper. All citizens should concentrate on their responsibilities over these 25 years." The President painted a picture of a prosperous, impoverished-free India.

"That should be an India without poverty, with a middle class that is also rich, with women and young people leading the way to show society and the nation the way, with young people who are always two steps ahead of the curve," she said. President Murmu also  praised India's rising stature on the international stage and claimed that it is offering the rest of the world solutions.

"India's self-confidence is at an all-time high right now, and the world is viewing her differently. India is supplying the world with solutions, "added the President. President Murmu's first address to the budget session since taking office in July of last year. At the beginning of the Budget session, the President arrived in a ceremonial escort to Parliament.
Earlier speaking to reporters outside Parliament Prime Minister Narendra Modi said,  "India's budget is being scrutinised by the entire world in the current global environment. In spite of the unsteady state of the world economy, India's budget will make an effort to address the expectations and aspirations of the average person. I am confident that Nirmala Sitharaman will use every effort to realise those goals."

 A month-long break will be taken during the budget session, which got underway today with the President's address, to review the budget documents. On February 13, the session's first segment will come to an end. The second round of the budget session will begin in parliament on March 12 and end on April 6.
