Bhubaneswar: A 50-year-old woman in Odisha has heard a case of attempted suicide in the administration office premises. A woman tried to set herself on fire on Monday in the premises of a local administration office in Jajpur district accusing the tehsildar of harassing her for selling land. However, the woman from Neulpur village was somehow overpowered by locals and dharamshala tehsil office staff and taken to a nearby hospital. The woman has said that "I decided to commit suicide after failing to sell a plot of land despite repeated attempts and harassment by the tehsil administration. "

The woman has also said that she wanted to sell a plot to meet the education expenses of her 2 sons. He has said, "I had approached the Tehsildar of Dharamshala four months ago to allow me to sell a piece of consolidated land. He directed me to go to the Revenue Inspector (RI) office and I collected the necessary report from the concerned RI. When I met the Tehsildar with the report, he issued an order to me to contact the office of the Jajpur Deputy Collector and after about a month of the process, I was cleared by the Deputy Collector. "

While it is learnt that the woman claimed that a few weeks ago she took all the reports from the tehsildar and held a meeting once again, in the meantime she was asked to come after a few days. The victim said that when she met the concerned tehsildar in her office room on Monday, she refused to allow her to sell the land as it was 'Chakka' (Chakbandi) land and allegedly started misbehaving. After which, when contacted by Jajpur Collector Chakraborty Singh, he has said that the victim's land is not allowed for sale under the law as it is 'Chaka' land. As per the Chakbandi (Consolidation) Law, it does not allow fragmentation of land for sale.
