Assam: The ruling BJP candidates are leading in the assembly bypolls in Bhabanipur and Thowra, according to preliminary results for two of the five seats where votes are being counted.

According to the website of the Election Commission, BJP's Phanidhar Talukdar was leading Congress's Sailendra Nath Das in Bhabanipur by 7,839 votes. Sushanta Borgohain, the BJP's candidate for the Thowra seat, was 2,524 votes ahead of his Independent opponent Dhaijya Konwar. Seat trends for Gossaigaon, Tamulpur, and Mariani are currently unavailable.

The death of sitting MLAs in Gossaigaon and Tamulpur necessitated by-elections, while incumbents in Bhabanipur, Mariani, and Thowra resigned their seats to join the ruling BJP.

In Rajasthan, on the other hand, Congress candidates are leading in by-polls. According to available trends, Congress candidates Nagraj Meena and Preeti Shaktawat are leading in the Dhariawad and Vallabhnagar Assembly constituencies of Rajasthan on Tuesday. In Dhariawad, Nagraj Meena is leading by 1,185 votes over BJP candidate Khet Singh Meena. Shaktawat is 1,269 votes ahead of Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) candidate Udailal Dangi in Vallabhnagar. The votes are being counted at the respective district headquarters under tight security.
