The Goa government has announced that, as promised in the BJP's election programme, it will offer three free cooking gas cylinders to households in the coastal state.

After chairing the first meeting of the new government, which includes the CM and eight other ministers, Pramod Sawant made the announcement on Monday. Sawant stated in a tweet on Monday evening, "After taking the oath as CM, I chaired the first meeting. From the start of the current fiscal year, the Cabinet has agreed to implement the three-free-cylinder scheme promised in the BJP manifesto." The BJP pledged three free LPG cylinders per year if elected to power in Goa's Assembly elections last month, according to its electoral manifesto.

On Monday, Sawant told reporters that resuming iron ore mining and creating jobs were two of his top goals during his current term. In response to his opponents' claims that he is a "accidental CM," Sawant stated that he is "elected" and not "picked" as the state's chief minister this time.

After the death of then-CM Manohar Parrikar in 2019, Sawant was appointed to the top job. The BJP gained 20 seats in the 40-member House in the recently ended Assembly elections, which it fought under Sawant's leadership.
