Cabinet approves the Atal Innovation Mission extension until March 2023

Union Cabinet chaired by PM Modi has approved the continuation of the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) till March 2023. The AIM will strive toward its goal of fostering an entrepreneurial environment and an innovation culture in the country. AIM will accomplish this through its many programmes.

The Atal Innovation Mission plans to construct 10,000 Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs), 101 Atal Incubation Centers (AICs), 50 Atal Community Innovation Centers (ACICs), and support 200 entrepreneurs through the Atal New India Challenges.

According to official data, a total budgeted expenditure of more than Rs 2000 crore will be incurred in the process of establishing and supporting the beneficiaries. According to the Finance Minister's announcement in the 2015 Budget Speech, the Mission would be run by the NITI Aayog. The AIM's goals are to establish and promote an innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem across the country through interventions at the school, university, research institution, MSME, and industry levels. The AIM has prioritised the development of infrastructure as well as the establishment of institutions.

The AIM collaborated with the Ministry of Defence to establish the Defense Innovation Organization, which promotes defence innovation and acquisition.
