Cabinet approves to increase in carpet area under PM Awas Yojana

The scope of the Prime Minister's housing scheme has been increased. Under the new step in PM Awaas Yojna, the carpet area of MIG-1 has been increased from 90 square meters to 120 square meters. This will also benefit the home buyers of MIG category.   

Apart from this, the size of the houses in the Prime Minister's housing scheme will also get cheaper home loans at big houses. Let us tell you that the purchase of a house up to 110 sq meters at present is subsidized under the Prime Minister's Awaas Yojna (PMAY).   

Central urban development minister Hardeep Singh Puri says that "Given the demand, this is a commendable step. This cabinet decision will increase the number of MIG house buyers."  The Cabinet has now allowed increasing the carpet area of MIG category 1 from 90 sq meters to 120 square meters and the carpet area of the Katra 2 flat from 110 to 150 square meters.   

Those earning Rs. 6 lakhs will get a subsidy on the purchase of 120 square meters flat. In the same way, those earning Rs 18 lakh will get the benefit of a discount on the purchase of 150 square meters flat. 

CREDAI's President Jaxay Shah said: "Housing for All by 2022 has taken a huge leap forward by the increase in a unit size of MIG Houses under Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme." "The average middle class in smaller towns and cities would now be able to afford bigger and better quality homes than before," Shah added.
