Patna: Winter session is underway in Bihar Assembly. The CAG, the Comptroller and Auditor General, slammed the Bihar government in the Assembly on Thursday. The CAG in its 2019-20 report has slammed the Bihar government for providing financial assistance of Rs 18,872 crore to defaulting government companies.

On Thursday, the CAG in its 2019-20 report in the State Assembly informed that the Bihar government provided budgetary assistance (equity, loans, grants and subsidies) of Rs. 18.872 crore to undertakings and 16 non-functional PUBLIC SECTOR UNDERTAKINGS. The non-functional companies include Bihar Pradesh Fruit and Vegetable Development Corporation Limited, Bihar Pradesh Nirman Nigam Limited, Bihar Pradesh Forest Development Corporation Limited, Bihar Pradesh Matsya Vikas Nigam Limited and Bihar Hill Area Lift Irrigation Corporation Limited.

Further, the CAG said that the state government has not framed any rules for accounting of labour and other cess. However, the cess collected by some departments is lying idle which does not meet the target for which it was imposed. 18.872 crore was provided by the Government of Bihar to undertakings and 16 non-functional PUBLIC SECTOR UNDERTAKINGS.
