Cambodia, the incoming ASEAN chair for 2022, has pledged to reinforce the bloc's centrality in order to sustain and uphold security, peace, and prosperity, according to Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn.

Sokhonn said the country will strengthen multilateralism and multilateral processes through ASEAN-led platforms and concerted activities that will remain open, transparent, inclusive, and rules-based during a press conference here.

He also stated that the kingdom will promote mutual trust, respect, interest, and understanding in accordance with the UN Charter, ASEAN Charter, and Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, among other values and objectives.

"In the face of rising anti-globalization attitudes, unilateralism, and protectionism, ASEAN Centrality will be further strengthened, while promoting the ASEAN Way, unity in diversity, caring and sharing community, and the culture of peace," he stated.

Cambodia would promote ASEAN's ethos as a connected family, according to Sokhonn, who is also a Deputy Prime Minister. He went on to say that the kingdom will do everything possible to reenergize and expand the bloc's partnerships with external partners in order to maintain regional peace and security and to help the ASEAN community grow.
