Cambodia sets July 23, 2023 as the day of National Assembly Poll

PHNOM PENH: The seventh National Assembly elections in Cambodia will take place on July 23, 2023, according to a decision signed on Wednesday by Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen.

The Prime Minister was quoted by the Xinhua news as saying, "Minister in charge of the Council of Ministers, interior minister, economy and finance minister, all ministers, and heads of all relevant organisations must carry out this decision with great efficiency from the date of signature." Every five years, the nation in Southeast Asia holds general elections.

The Cambodian People's Party, which is led by the prime minister, won all 125 seats in the National Assembly in the most recent general election, which took place on July 29, 2018.

Though it did face some competition from the Candlelight Party, which had a strong showing at the polls despite this being their first time on the ballot, the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) was said to have once again demonstrated enduring popularity among the electorate by winning 9,376 out of 11,622 commune council seats across all 1,652 communes in the capital and the 24 provinces.
